The Antidote to Stress

"What’s the antidote to stress?"

That question stopped me mid-scribble in a meeting this week.

The answer?

Deep work.

Not more rest. Deep, focused, meaningful work.

It stopped me in my tracks.

Because here's the truth:

We’re not wired for endless pings, constant switching, or racing through to-do lists.

We’re wired for impact. We’re wired to make meaning.

And the best way to do that?

→ Time to think.

→ Space to focus.

→ Energy to create.

We need fewer distractions and more intention. Less multi-tasking and more presence.

That kind of focus? It heals. It gives us a sense of purpose. It reminds us that we matter—and that our work does too.

So if you’re feeling overwhelmed or stretched too thin, maybe the solution isn’t to do less.

Maybe it’s to go deeper.

3 ways to start building a deep work routine:

✅ Block 90 minutes for focused time—protect it like a meeting.

✅ Shut off notifications — every single one.

✅ Start and end with a cue — create a ritual that signals it’s time to focus.

It’s not hustle that changes us.

It’s focus.

Question (Journaling Prompt)

When was the last time you were fully absorbed in something that mattered?

Action Step

A couple weeks ago, I asked you “What personal habit needs a reset?” And 45% of you said managing distractions.

Here’s a tip: Set a 90-minute window this week to do uninterrupted, high-value work—phone off, tabs closed, calendar protected.

Statistic

Workers take an average of 23 minutes and 15 seconds to refocus after an interruption. (University of California, Irvine)
